The reason I gave a 4 is because the unit is a bit flimsy. It has very strong suction. I have a Chow-Chow mix and he leaves a lot of fur all over the house. I do not use it on carpet because it does not move very well. It is wonderful on our laminate. I don't mind empting and cleaning the filter often.

after use the filters needed cleaning. after one month of use the filters became so hopelessly clogged that the vacuum was unusable. you cannot buy the replacement filter in the store. It must be ordered at a 2-4 week wait. But they dont have it in stock and it is on back order. my floor hasnt been vacuumed for a month. I'll never buy another.

Affordable and light...yes. But I find myself wanting to sweep my hardwood floors rather than use this vacuum. And the sole reason for that is that this thing is waaaay too loud. It hurts my ears, is very annoying, and scares my 1 year old son. Also, the on/off switch is in a weird and inconvenient location. I have to look hard for it every time I use it. I'm wishing I bought something else.

Think twice before buying this vacuum!! While this unit does have great suction, it is a HUGE HASSLE to clean. Especially if you are using it for pet hair or in dusty areas. I wouldn't recommend it at all for cleaning bare floors with pets. I don't care how much or how hard you bang the filters, you can't get them clean. Also, you definitely can't use it on a carpeted area at all. Also, I don't like the fact you can't buy the replacement filters in a store. I would never have bought it had I known how much of a hassle the cleaning and filter replacement would be for me.

A Pain To Clean Filters

I have 2400 sq feet of tile floors and use a floor vac every day, with a dog and a cat in residence. This vac has amazing suction. However, it has three filters that must be cleaned with each use. The first one is no problem at all; very easy to empty the cup, and clean off the little filter screen within the cup container. However, the second and third filters clog before I've cleaned even half of my floors! The red light indicator that says, "clogged!" comes on almost instantly. It is a lot more work to clean these two filters and even after cleaning them during use, the light will come back on very quickly, indicating it's clogged again.
If you don't have pet dander and hair to deal with, or your floors aren't that extensive, this would be a great little vac. For me, though, it is more hassle than it's worth, and I will not buy another one.

You have to buy filters on line - buy 2 and you've basically purchased a new machine - no retailer carries supplies for this vacuum.
My unit died after 3 months - now I have to pay to ship it back and maybe get a new one at no charge - BUT THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD TAKE 4-6 WEEKS BEFORE I WOULD GET ANYTHING BACK -so what do I use in the meantime?? Look at other brands and check out supplies and support before you purchase.

I bought this vacuum 10/06 and it worked great...until I needed to change the filter. They can ONLY be purchased from the shark website. I ordered these well before I needed them and 6 weeks later they still haven't arrived. I called the Shark company and they told me that the filters are on back order and that they can only be purchased from Shark. It has been 5 weeks since I have been able to use this vacuum. I had to purchase another brand of vacuum cleaner because Shark couldn't tell me when they filters would be back in stock. Had I known the filters weren't available for purchase in stores, I would have initially bought a different vacuum.

I live in a 446 sq.ft. apartment and this vacuum is perfect! The suction is unbelieveable especially through the hose. It's easy to empty and easy to put away. The cup size is perfect as I have a two room studio and it never fully fills up anyways. Even with a long hair cat! I'm so happy I don't have to sweep my apt first and then vacuum...I can do it all at once now. It's light, easy to manuver, and easy to use. A longer hose would be nice though.

This is a great small vacuum. It has 12 amps of power, which is the same as most home vacuums with a bigger price tag. It is very light , easy to carry around, esp. if you have stairs. Strong suction, and the no-bag canister makes it a cheap investment (versus constatnly buying refill bags). Power cord length is ample, making it easy to get around a room. Can use nozzle to do corners and spot areas, and comes with two nozzle attachments (brush and a tapered nozzle) that fit securely onto the vacuum. Compact, efficient design can be used as an upright (with telescoping handle) or as a hand-held (with shoulder carry-strap). All this for $40! This is meant for a hardwood/vinyl/tile environment, I tried it on an area rug, and it didn't move well at all, but works just fine for non-carpeted floors. A great buy for apartment folks!
